My name is Mirian Rodriguez Calvo and I am the PhD candidate for the Leapfrog project within the Institute of Design Innovation, Glasgow School of Art. I studied Architecture and Urbanism and also hold a Masters in Urban Planning and Urban Design within the School of Architecture, University of A Coruna. I recently completed my second Masters in Design Innovation and Environmental Design within the Glasgow School of Art. In the PhD I am looking at appropriate models of evaluation with a focus on identifying and mapping the values and the impact of consultation tools. My past experiences as an architect, urban designer and researcher helped me achieve knowledge base that complements my academic and professional development.
Within the Masters in Design Innovation and Environmental Design, I have participated within a team in a user-led project that aimed to enhance and strengthen the networks across 12 communities operating in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. In my Final Masters Project, I explored the idea of using public space as a tool to facilitate socio-political engagement among all voices.
My research interests have shifted in time from perceiving surroundings as built environment to understanding the complex relationships between social aspects and its surroundings. I am also interested in exploring the symbiotic relationship that is established between the built environment and the flourishing of public social life of people alongside embracing sociological approaches through design practices that shifts the focus on social issues.
